EU macro-regional strategies are aiming at addressing challenges shared within a functional area. They also aim at better implementation of the EU policies and more coordination of existing institutions and financial resources. Macro-regional strategies address broad scope of priorities, making an effort for cooperation and coordination across the territory.

On October 2-3 in Odessa, the representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Ministry for Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine along with city mayors, chairmen of local self-governance, academics and delegates of regional state administrations from four Ukrainian regions (Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Odessa), representatives of PA 5 and PA 7 discussed the issues, challenges and best practices of waste management in Danube region.

In order to highlight the environmental related topics on the occasion of the EUSDR Annual Forum the Hungarian PA6 (Biodiversity and Landscapes) Steering Group Members initiated the organization of a side event just one day before the main event (in the afternoon on 17 October 2017), hosted by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. The seminar will be realized in cooperation with EUSDR PA4 (Water quality) and PA5 (Environmental risks) priority areas.

Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE will offer around 60 million EUR ERDF for new transnational cooperation ideas during its third call for proposal which will be opened at the 21st of September 2017 at the 20th Annual Conference in Berlin.
